Taylor + Sam, Suprise Headwaters Park Engagement

You know how they say there’s a first for everything? Well I’m so glad that my first experience photographing a surprise engagement was for Taylor and Sam! Pop that bubbly, cuz HE said yes!

When Taylor reached out to me back in September, she was so excited about proposing to her boyfriend of two years, Sam. She knew that she wanted the proposal to happen at Headwaters Park, but what she didn’t know was exactly how to pull it off without Sam getting suspicious. Taylor ended up coming up with the master plan – she’d tell Sam that she won a free couples session and when the moment was right, I’d give her the cue to pop the Q.

The day finally came and we had the perfect fall weather – I’m talking slight breeze, mid-60’s, and sunshine. Taylor messaged me that morning saying “I can’t wait any longer, let’s just do the picnic basket and proposal first when we get there.” Who knew that an adorable picnic basket would be the perfect hiding spot for a ring? 

We took a few photos towards the front of the park to get them warmed up and for Taylor to get some of those pre-proposal jitters out of the way. Taylor then said, “I think I want the picnic basket photos on the grass, can we find a spot that works for that?”

Go time.

We found the perfect private, secluded spot and I checked my camera settings and talked about the weather while they set up the picnic basket. Taylor kicked off her shoes, they snuggled up on the blanket, and I swear y’all the cuteness was almost too much too handle.

Finally, the moment was here. Taylor turned around to get the wooden heart-shaped ring box from the basket, turned back to Sam, and had the biggest smile on her face. I’m just walking around them, snapping photos as I go, and I can see that Sam doesn’t quite understand what’s happening yet. Taylor then opened the box, looked at him, and said “I don’t know what else to say – I have so many emotions and feelings and I had so many words planned, but…will you marry me?”

HE SAID YES, EVERYBODY!

The ring Taylor picked out for Sam perfectly matched his watch (a detail she absolutely planned because we ladies pay attention) and even though it may have been a smidge too big, it was perfection. Such a perfect, beautiful, and pure moment of happiness!

These two are perfect for each other in every dang way and I\’m so honored to have been there to capture this amazing surprise – congratulations Taylor and Sam!
